General Notes: This procedure applies to the inspection of the center section of the frame.
Image 1.1.1 identifies the general area of the frame for which this procedure applies.

CLEAN
The center section of the frame should be thoroughly cleaned (especially behind tanks) to ensure visible detection of any cracks, etc.
INSPECT ? CENTER SECTION OF FRAME
Visual inspection will require a combination of a telescoping mirror and/or a bore scope to view some of the areas listed. In most cases, visual inspection will be satisfactory; however any uncertainty should be verified via magnetic particle inspection.
INSPECT 4 BAR LINK CASTING TO MAIN RAIL CONNECTION
Visually inspect the four bar link casting to main rail connection as shown in Image 1.2.1 and Image 1.2.2. If cracking occurs, it will be most readily visible at the corners of the weld joint as shown in Image 1.2.2.
Note: The weld reinforcement has been sanded flush with the parent material so the groove weld connection is not readily identifiable.

INSPECT FILLET WELDS CONNECTING TUBE TO VOLCANO PLATE - INTERIOR
Visually inspect the fillet welds connecting the tube to the volcano plate (interior). Refer to Image 1.3.1 for guidance.

INSPECT FILLET WELDS CONNECTING TUBE TO OUTER WINDOW PLATE AND COVER PLATE - EXTERIOR
Visually inspect the fillet welds connecting the tube to the outer window plate and to the cover plate (exterior). Refer to Image 1.4.1 for guidance.

INSPECT GROOVE WELD BETWEEN OUTER WINDOW PLATE AND 4 BAR LINK CASTING - EXTERIOR
Visually inspect the groove weld connecting the outer window plate to the four bar link casting. Refer to Image 1.6.1 for guidance.

Visually inspect the vertical groove weld connecting adjacent outer window plates. Refer to Image 1.8.1 for guidance.

INSPECT FILLET WELDS ATTACHING HARDWARE TO OUTER WINDOW PLATES - EXTERIOR
Visually inspect the fillet welds attaching all hardware on the two outer window plates as shown in Image 1.10.1.

Note: The picture in Image 1.10.2 shows a large bottom cooler mount. This can be found on earlier model trucks. Later models will reflect the three small blocks on the bottom as depicted in Image 1.10.1.
In addition to the hardware located on the outer window plates, inspect the fillet weld connecting the pump box to the inside window plate on the right side of the truck as shown in Image 1.11.1. The main concern is the top right hand corner of the pump box. An example of crack for this location is shown in Image 1.11.2.
