PELJ1155 ?2010 Caterpillar UPDATES TO MAJOR COMPONENT PPC LIST
Issue
Strategy changes and recent New Product Introductions have led to changes in the list of Major Component Parts Product Code (PPC). Major components have shorter entitlement periods than Reman Minor Components. Recent changes include the addition of the following:
134 ? Reman Generator Ends ? see PELJ0943 dated Sep 2009
CWR ? Landfill Compactor Wheels ? see PELJ1044 dated Sep 2009
ECT ? C27/C32 Engines ? see PELJ0799 dated Sep 2007 and PELJ1036 dated May 2009
At the same time, three PPCs are being removed from the list:
DAW ? now being used for Differential Housings which will be treated like other Drivetrain piece parts and will be treated like all other Reman minor components.

SUS ? Suspension Groups have been discontinued

What determines which PPCs are designated major components?
There are various reasons a component may be designated as a major component and come with a shorter core entitlement period. These can include:
Supports segmenting cores for core management purposes
Given the size and/or weight, shipping instructions for return of major and minor components can vary. Refer to SELD0039 Shipping Instructions for specific details.
Improves product availability
Reman components more likely to remain in the Cat system available to fill emergencies or until needed for planned change-outs.
Improves core velocity
Helps Reman provide lower cost exchange solutions by avoiding unnecessary seeding or having to put an excessive amount of exchange units into the system.
Discourage stocking when specific maintenance is required
Certain product requires regular maintenance to ensure reliability once put into operation. Generator Ends is one example. This product requires a rotation quarterly. Reman has agreements in place with Cat Logistics Services to ensure these maintenance events occur.
How long is an entitlement on a major component?
Entitlement periods vary depending on what region of the world you operate in. Since the entitlement period starts at the time the product is shipped from a Caterpillar parts facility, the longer entitlements for certain regions is intended to avoid penalizing dealers who have to wait for product to arrive. These periods vary from 180 to 240 days. For further information, refer to SELD0122 Policies and Core Management.
