(7) Wheel brake accumulatorsWheel brake accumulators (7) store energy and the wheel brake accumulators release the energy upon demand. The wheel brake accumulators provide independent operation of the front wheel brakes and the rear wheel brakes. There are two accumulators for the wheel brakes. Each accumulator has a capacity of 750 cm3 (45.75 in3). The gas pressure is 4500 kPa (650 psi).The wheel brake accumulators are charged separately by the valve to the accumulator charging valve and the shuttle valve before going to the wheel brake accumulators. The brake/pilot pump charges the wheel brake accumulators when the pressure in the accumulator drops below the cut-in pressure. The brake/pilot pump stops charging when the pressure reaches cut-out pressure. The accumulator is the diaphragm type. The accumulator includes steel shell (3) and diaphragm (4). The diaphragm separates the hydraulic fluid from the nitrogen gas. Shutoff button (5) on the base of the diaphragm blocks the inlet at line connection (6) when the diaphragm is fully extended. The diaphragm is not pressed into the opening in the recharged state.Screw plug (2) is used to check the gas pressure and the recharge via an accumulator charging device.When fluid from line (6) is forced into the accumulator, the gas volume is reduced when the pressure increases. If fluid is discharged from the accumulator, the diaphragm expands until there are equal pressures of gas and fluid.
