Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the carburetor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Carburetor - Remove".
Remove the instrument panel. Disassembly and Assembly, "Instrument Panel - Remove and Install".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Shut off and disconnect the gas supply line to the gas pressure regulator.

Remove bolt (1) and the washer from the support for tube assembly (2).
Disconnect tube assembly (2) from the boost control valve.

Remove bolts (4) and the washers. Remove gas pressure regulator (3) and the braces as a unit.

Remove bolts (5) and the washers that hold tube assembly (6) in place. Remove tube assembly (6).

Remove adapter (7) and the gasket from the aftercooler housing.

Remove bolts (8) and the washers from elbow (9).
Disconnect water inlet tube (10) from the fitting on the auxiliary water pump.
Remove elbow (9) and water inlet tube (10) as a unit.

Remove adapter (11) and the gasket from the aftercooler cover.

Remove bolts (13) and the washers that hold aftercooler cover (12) in place. Remove aftercooler cover (12) and the gasket.

Remove aftercooler core (14) and the gasket.

Remove eight bolts (16) and the washers that hold the aftercooler housing (15) in place.
Remove aftercooler housing (15) and the gaskets from the cylinder head.
