0R0824, 0R2089, 0R2128, 0R2170, 0R2586, and 0R666 Remanufactured Cylinder Heads for D343 Engines in dealer parts stock may have a 9F2247 Pipe Plug installed too deep into the threaded hole blocking the oil passage and reducing the flow of oil through the head.
Action Required
Remanufactured Cylinder Heads for D343 Engines in dealer parts stock need to be inspected. The part numbers that may be affected by this problem are:
0R-2666 Head GP0R-0824 Head As0R-2089 Head As0R-2170 Head Gp0R-2586 Head As0R-2128 Head AsInspection Procedure:
While the head is still on the box, locate the pipe plug on the side of the head. When looking at the head, with exhaust side toward you (angled side) the plug is located in the center area of the left side of the head.
Check with a Allen wrench if the plug is tight, if it is,check visually if the end of the plug is between the surface of the head and the counterbore of the hole. If these two checks are OK, the head is GOOD.
If the plug is not tight, it needs to be tighten to 16 N m (12 LB ft) and then check visually if the end of the plug is between the surface of the head and the counterbore of the hole, again if both checks are OK the head is GOOD.
If the inspector can not determine if the top of the pipe plug is between the top of the head and the counterbore of the hole or if the plug is deeper that the counterbore of the hole, then the inspector needs to take the head out of the box, and place it on its side to inspect visually if the oil passage has been obstructed.
If the inspector can see the plug inside the oil passage more than .040" (1 mm or about 3 threads of the plug), the head should be returned.
