Raise the truck body and install the retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".Note: Put identification marks on all harness assemblies for installation purposes.
The Power Train Electric Drive System will contain hazardous voltage levels during machine operation and for a short period of time after engine shutdown.Do not remove any covers that will expose energized high voltage electrical components while the engine is operating.Any type of maintenance on the following components can only be performed after the Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown procedure has been followed:
High voltage compartments in the inverter cabinet
The rear axle housing that contains the electric drive traction motors
The generator
The retarding resistor grid, the grid blower motor and the grid system cabling
The excitation field regulator
The high voltage cables and connection enclosuresFailure to follow these instructions could result in personal injury or death.
The space between the body and the frame becomes a zero clearance area when the body is lowered. Failure to install the retaining cable can result in injury or death to personnel working in this area.
Perform the machine shutdown procedure in order to drain the electrical power. Refer to Troubleshooting, "The Power Train Electrical System Service Shutdown".

Remove bolts (1) and remove the outer bolts from clamps (3). Remove cover (2).

Disconnect ground strap (4) from the electric retarder.

Remove the bus bar connecting hardware (5). Remove the bolts from support (6). As an assembly, position the harness assemblies and support (6) out of the way.

Remove bolt (8) and position the harness assembly out of the way.
Remove support (7).

Loosen lockwasher (12). Remove bolts (10) and position harness assembly (11) out of the way.
Repeat Step 8 for each of the remaining harness assemblies.

Correct orientation of link brackets

Attach Tooling (A) and suitable 6 m (20 ft) chains to electric retarder (13). The weight of electric retarder (13) is approximately 1723 kg (3800 lb).
Remove bolts (14) and remove electric retarder (13).
