Assembly Procedure
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the assembly procedure, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble.
Check all of the O-ring seals and the components for wear or damage. Replace the components, if necessary.
Lubricate all of the O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.

Install quick-connect coupling (25) and the O-ring seal onto valve (1). Install nipple (24) and the O-ring seal onto union (25). Install cap (22) onto nipple (24).
Install fluid sampling valve (23) and the O-ring seal into valve (1).

Install orifice plug (21) into valve (1).

Install O-ring seal (20) onto valve body (16).
Install valve (15) and plate (19) into valve body (16).
Install O-ring seal (13) onto retainer (17).
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Install spring (14) and hard washer (18) into valve body (16). Install retainer (17) onto valve body (16).
Install nut (12) onto retainer (17). Tighten nut (12) to a torque of 50 7 N m (37 5 lb ft).

Install O-ring seal (11) into relief valve (10). Install relief valve (10) into valve (1). Tighten relief valve (10) to a torque of 65 5 N m (47.9 3.7 lb ft).

Install O-ring seal (9) onto check valve (8).

Install check valve (8) into valve (1). Install O-ring seal (7) onto check valve (8).

Install O-ring seal (5), O-ring seal (6) and the backup ring onto cartridge assembly (3).

Install cartridge assembly (3) into valve (1). Tighten cartridge assembly (3) to a torque of 169 7 N m (124.7 5.2 lb ft).
Install coil assembly (4) into cartridge assembly (3). Position coil assembly (4), as shown. Install locknut (2) and the washer onto cartridge assembly (3). Tighten locknut (2) to a torque of 9 .5 N m (79.7 4.4 lb in). End By:
Install the steering solenoid and relief valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Solenoid and Relief Valve (Steering) - Install".
