Illustration 1 g00626212Note: If the timing pins cannot be installed in the camshaft, it may be necessary to loosen the rocker arm and the gas admission valve adjusting screws. This is done so that the camshaft can be turned.
Install the camshaft timing pin (1) in the camshaft.
Install the timing pin in the crankshaft.

Put the plate (5) in position on the camshaft drive gear (1). Install the bolts (2).
Put 2P-2506 Thread Compound on the threads of the bolt (4).
Fasten a suitable lifting device to the camshaft drive gear (1). Put the camshaft drive gear in position on the camshaft. Install the washer (3) and the bolt (4). Tighten the bolt (4) by hand.
Remove the crankshaft timing pin from the timing location.
Turn the flywheel backward about 20 degrees. Note: If the crankshaft is turned more than 20 degrees, interference between the pistons and the valves may occur.
Turn the flywheel in the direction of the engine rotation until the crankshaft timing pin can be reinstalled in the crankshaft. This procedure holds the backlash in the timing gears in the direction of the normal engine rotation. Note: If you miss the location of the crankshaft timing pin, do not turn the flywheel. If you miss the location of the crankshaft timing pin, repeat Step 7 and Step 8.
Remove the camshaft timing pin and the crankshaft timing pin.
Use Tool (A) in order to tighten the bolt (4) to a torque of 2000 275 N m (1480 200 lb ft).
Carefully hit the bolt (4) with a rubber mallet. Repeat Step 10. Repeat this procedure until the torque does not change.
Verify the correct camshaft timing. Refer to the Testing and Adjusting, SENR5528, "Camshaft Timing Check".
Remove the crankshaft timing pin and the camshaft timing pin. Return the pins to the correct storage locations.
Install the rear camshaft inspection covers on both sides of the engine.
Adjust the valve clearance and the fuel timing. End By:
Install the magneto.
