Removal Procedure
Start By:
Install the truck body retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "System Pressure - Release". Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the removal procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.Note: Put identification marks on all tubes and on all hoses for installation purposes. Plug all tubes and all hoses. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
At operating temperature, the hydraulic tank is hot and under pressure.Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.Remove the filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand. Remove the filler cap slowly in order to relieve pressure.
Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the hose can come off causing burns.Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".
Drain the hydraulic oil into a suitable container for proper storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Hydraulic System Oil - Change".

Remove bolts (2). Position tube assembly (1) out of the way.
Remove bolts (3).

Attach a suitable lifting device to oil cooler assembly (5). The weight of oil cooler assembly (5) is approximately 55 kg (120 lb).
Remove bolts (4) and position tube assembly (6) out of the way.

Remove bolts (8) and position tube assembly (7) out of the way.
Remove Bolts (10) and position tube assembly (11) out of the way.
Remove bolts (9).
Remove oil cooler assembly (5).
