Remove Cylinder Head
START BY:a) remove rocker shaft assemblyb) remove fuel injection lines 1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level below that of the exhaust manifold. Steps 2 through 7, 9, 11, 15, 18 and 19 are for engines with water cooled exhaust manifolds and turbochargers only.2. Remove bolts (1) and the two bolts behind the fuel filter. Move bracket assembly (2) away from the exhaust manifold. Do Steps 3 and 4 if the cylinder head on the left side of the engine (as seen from the generator end) is to be removed.3. Remove nuts, washers and bolts (3) that hold the two braces to the air cleaner housing. Loosen clamp (4). 4. Fasten tool (A) and a hoist to the air cleaner housing. Remove bolts (5) and the washers that hold air cleaner housing support (6) in position. Remove air cleaner housing and support (6) from the machine as a unit. 5. Remove nuts (7), the bolts and washers that hold elbow (9) in place. Remove elbow (9) and the gaskets.6. Remove three nuts (8) and three bolts. 7. Remove elbow (10) and the gasket from the front of the manifold. 8. Remove the push rods. Remove the fuel lines from the fuel injection valves to the valve cover base with tool (B).9. Disconnect water line (11) from the turbocharger and from the expansion tank. Remove water line (11).10. Disconnect elbow (12) from the aftercooler. Remove elbow (12) and tube (13) as a unit.11. Remove elbow (15).12. Remove three bolts (16) that hold the lifting bracket to the cylinder head. Loosen the fourth bolt.13. Remove valve cover base (14) from the cylinder head. 14. Remove bracket (18) and support (19).15. Disconnect elbow (17) from the expansion tank. 16. Remove the bolts that hold clips (21) in position. Move the fuel filter base and fuel lines (24) away from the side of the engine.17. Remove elbow (23) and the tube connected to the elbow from the bonnet on the water pump.18. Remove elbows (20) and (22). 19. If the cylinder head on the left side of the machine is to be removed, remove three bolts (26) that hold elbow (25) to the cylinder head. 20. If the cylinder head on the left side of the engine is to be removed, remove three bolts (27) that hold water temperature regulator housing (28) to the cylinder head. 21. Remove elbow (29). Remove three bolts (31) that hold water temperature regulator housing (30) to the cylinder head. 22. If the cylinder head on the right side is to be removed, remove shield (32) and clamp (33). 23. If the cylinder head on the left side is to be removed, remove shield (34), bracket (36) and lifting bracket (35). 24. Remove thermocouple (37) if the cylinder head on the left side of the machine is to be removed. 25. Fasten tooling (C) and a hoist to the cylinder head. Remove the bolts that hold the cylinder head in position.
