Connect the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
Personal injury or death can result from a fire.Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.Clean up all leaked or spilled fuel. Do not smoke while working on the fuel system.Turn the disconnect switch OFF or disconnect the battery when changing fuel filters.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Put identification on all lines, hoses, wires, and tubes for installation purposes. Use caps and plugs on all lines, hoses, and tubes in order to prevent fluid loss or contamination of the systems.
Raise the engine hood. The secondary fuel filter is located on the left side of the machine.
Lower the bottom guard.Reference: Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7197, "Bottom Guard Lowering".

Place a suitable container under the machine. Open drain valve (4) .
Use Tooling (A) to remove secondary fuel filter element (3) .
Disconnect five tube assemblies (2) .
Remove two bolts (1) and remove the secondary fuel filter base.Installation Procedure
Do not fill fuel filters with fuel before installing them. Contaminated fuel will cause accelerated wear to fuel system parts.

Install the secondary fuel filter base and install two bolts (1) .
Connect five tube assemblies (2) .
Install secondary fuel filter element (3) .Reference: Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7197, "Fuel System Secondary Filter - Replace".
Close drain valve (4) .
Close the engine hood.
Raise the bottom guard.Reference: Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7197, "Bottom Guard Lowering".End By: Separate the steering frame lock. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock - Separate and Connect".
