Dash panel (5) Charging system alert indicator24 V power is supplied to alternator (3) from the batteries via fuse assembly (2) and alternator circuit breaker (4). The alternator circuit breaker protects the alternator and the wiring harness from circuit overload. With the key start switch in the ON position, power is supplied to the Caterpillar Monitoring System.With the engine running at high idle, alternator generates (3) a charge of 26 to 29 V. A voltage signal is supplied from alternator (3) to the Caterpillar Monitoring System. When the voltage signal is within the normal operating range, the Caterpillar Monitoring System will turn off charging system alert indicator (5). When the voltage signal is outside the normal operating range, charging system alert indicator (5) will be on, indicating a fault.
