Pull the used element (1) out of housing (2). DO NOT ROTATE THE USED ELEMENT. Pull the element straight out.

With the used element removed, verify the fixed center tube (3) is in place inside housing (2) .
Verify that the fixed center tube (3) is tight in the housing. The fixed center tube (3) should not be able to be rotated by hand.
If, the tube is tight inside the housing then proceed to Step 7.
If the tube has came out or is found to be loose, then remove the tube by unscrewing the tube counter-clockwise. Clean and dry all of the parts. Apply Loctite 271 to the threads of the tube and torque the tube into the housing to 22.5 2.5 N m (199 22 lb in).
Install a new element over the tube inside the housing. Push the new element firmly into place. An O-Ring in the filter element must seal against the tube at the bottom of the housing.
Replace the O-Ring on the outside of the housing with the new O-Ring that came with the new filter element.
Lubricate the new housing O-Ring with clean oil and install the filter housing onto the filter base. The housing should be torqued to 50 5 N m (37 4 lb ft).
