Install lower pivot pin (1) and tapered roller bearing (2) .
Install upper pivot pin (3) and tapered roller bearing (4) without shim (5) .
Fully tighten bolts (6) in the lower pivot pin (1). Tighten bolts (7) in the upper pivot pin (3) until there is zero bearing end play.
Check the clearance (K) in two opposite positions between the upper pivot pin (3) and steering case (8). Calculate the average clearance from the two readings.
Assemble a shim pack (5) that is equal to the average clearance (K), that was calculated in Step 4. Install the shim pack between the upper pivot pin (3) and steering case (8). Secure the upper pivot pin via bolts (7) .Note: Shims (5) are available in the following thicknesses: 0.10 mm (0.0039 inch), 0.25 mm (0.0098 inch) and 0.50 mm (0.0197 inch).

Use 9U-5017 Torque Wrench and check the rolling torque of the upper pivot and lower pivot pins (3) and (1). The rolling torque should be 22 1 N m (195 9 lb in). If the rolling torque is too high, add shims. If the rolling torque is too low, remove shims.
When the pivot pin bearing preload is correct, bolts (7) can be tightened to a torque setting of 191.5 1.5 N m (141.24 1.11 lb ft).
