Remove the torque converter housing. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Torque Converter Housing - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Remove bolts (1) .

Install Tooling (A) in order to remove pump adapter (2) and O-ring seal (3) (not shown).

Remove shim pack (4) from the torque converter housing.Note: Measure the shim pack thickness and record the measurement for installation purposes.

Place pump adapter (2) on suitable cribbing. Remove bearing cup (5) from pump adapter (2) .

Remove pump drive gear (6) .

Remove seal ring (7) .

Use Tooling (B) , Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device in order to remove bearing cone (8) from pump drive gear (6) .

Repeat Step 7 in order to remove bearing cone (9) .

Remove bearing cup (10) from the torque converter housing.
Repeat Step 1 through Step 9 in order to disassemble the remaining pump drive.
Use Tooling (D) and a suitable lifting device in order to turn over the torque converter housing. The weight of the torque converter housing is approximately 150 kg (331 lb).
