C-12Service Magazine SEPD0644, 26 August 2002, "C-12/3176C/3196 Front Housing Bolts". Disregard this article. Refer to the article that follows.The front of the engine blocks have been modified. This modification requires the use of different bolts that attach the front housing to the engine block. Use Table 1 to determine the Type of bolt that will be used. The "Type 1" bolt is 30 mm (1.18 inch) in length. The "Type 2" bolt is 40 mm (1.57 inch) in length. The "Type 2" bolt is used due to a deeper counterbore in the engine block. The use of the incorrect bolt may cause damage to the threads. The use of the incorrect bolt will not properly tighten the front housing to the engine block.
