Adjustable-gap Speed Sensor
Prior to replacing the sensor, perform the following checks:
Verify that the sensor has failed.
Check the connection to the sensor.
Measure the voltage between the contacts of the sensor.
Check for metal shavings on the magnetic tip or the gear teeth.To replace the speed sensor, perform the following procedure.
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the machine harness connector from the sensor. Remove the sensor.
By hand, install the new sensor into the gear housing until the sensor contacts the gear tooth.
Set the air gap of the sensor to 0.89 mm (0.035 inch). The air gap is set by turning the sensor 180 degrees in a counterclockwise direction. Note: For fixed-gap speed sensors, the air gap is preset.
Tighten the sensor to 25 5 N m (18 4 lb ft). Tighten the output speed sensors to 28 7 N m (21 5 lb ft).
Inspect the sensor connector of the machine harness. Connect the machine harness to the sensor.
Verify that the sensor corrects the problem.
