(1) Pressure tap for torque converter outlet
At pressure tap (1), connect Tooling (A).Test Procedure
Start the engine and operate the engine at LOW IDLE rpm with the transmission in NEUTRAL.
The drive wheels must not turn during a stall test. Lower any implements if equipped. Dig into the ground or place the machine against a solid object that does not move.
Depress the brake pedal and hold the brake pedal. Make sure that the parking and secondary brakes are RELEASED.
Move the transmission control into the SECOND speed position.
Do not keep the torque converter in a stall condition for long periods of time. Damage could occur in the torque converter, the engine, and the brakes.
Slowly increase the engine rpm to MAXIMUM SETTING. The machine will attempt to move.
The pressure on the gauge should be 275 kPa (40 psi) to 480 kPa (70 psi).
When this test is complete, move the transmission control into NEUTRAL. Engage the parking brakes and stop the engine. Remove the test equipment.Test Results
If the torque converter outlet pressure is correct, but the transmission lubrication pressure from the Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Transmission Lubrication Relief Valve Pressure - Test" is too low, the following condition exists:
The transmission lubrication circuit has too much leakage.If the torque converter outlet pressure is too high, and the transmission lubrication pressure from Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Transmission Lubrication Relief Valve Pressure - Test" is too low, the following condition exists:
The oil cooler has too much restriction.If the torque converter outlet pressure is too low, the following conditions exist:
The torque converter inlet relief valve is open.
The torque converter has too much leakage.If the oil becomes too hot during normal operation, the following conditions exist:
The temperature gauge is bad. Install a new gauge and a new sending unit.
There is insufficient oil in the torque converter because the torque converter inlet relief valve is open.
There is too much restriction in the oil lines or in the transmission oil cooler.
