Operate the engine at full rpm for maximum braking, steering and propel control response. Operation below full throttle will adversely affect response.When climbing a steep grade, the propel control lever must be moved SLOWLY in order to avoid engine stall and possible loss of machine control.
Normal speed for asphalt compaction is 6 to 9 km/h (4 to 6 mph).To eliminate any chance of uncompacted strips, begin the first passes along the sides of the work. Subsequent passes should gradually work toward the center. Each subsequent pass should overlap the previous pass by approximately 20 cm (8 inch).Compaction should be carried out without any interruption. The travel speed should not be changed. Travel speed should remain constant throughout the length of the pass.Drive in a straight line.Do not cause any sudden movements of the machine. Always stop machine movement before reversing direction.Do not cause the machine to stop in a violent manner. Allow the machine to gradually stop.When you turn the compactor, always make slow, gradual turns in order to avoid scuffing of the compacted surface.Utilize the braking effect of the engine in order to help slow or stop the machine.Use the water spray system in order to avoid picking up pieces of the asphalt.Material That Sticks to the Tires
Hot asphalt will stick to cold tires. This problem is reduced as the tires warm up. Several options can be tried in order to reduce sticking until the tires warm up. Water that is sprayed on the tires will reduce sticking. However, the water spray will also cool the tires. Water should be used sparingly. Coco mats are available to soak up the water. Coco mats will reduce the amount of cooling water that is needed to be sprayed on the tires. Install tire skirts in order to retain heat around the tires. Asphalt is less likely to stick to the radial tire rather than a bias ply tire. Additives that are available on the market are formulated in order to increase the ability of water to prevent the asphalt from sticking to the tires. Products are available for coating the tires. The coating will reduce the amount of asphalt that sticks to tires. Once the tires are hot, you should avoid stopping the machine. A long stop will promote cooling of the tires.Tire Pressures
The pressure and the contact area that is exerted by each tire depends on the amount of air pressure that is in each tire. In order to determine the correct tire pressures for each job site, refer to the chart below.
