Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level that is below the water temperature regulator.

Disconnect the upper radiator hose from pipe (1) .
Remove four bolts and pipe (1) from the cylinder head. Remove gasket (2) and water temperature regulator (3) .Installation Procedure

Put water temperature regulator (3) and gasket (2) in position on the cylinder head.
Put pipe (1) in position. The side with the plug faces the front of the engine. Install the four bolts that hold pipe (1) in position.
Connect the upper radiator hose to pipe (1) and fill the cooling system to the correct level. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Refill Capacities" topic for the correct fluid and the correct filling procedure.
