Hydraulic Screed Counterbalance System (If Equipped)
The hydraulic screed counterbalance applies hydraulic pressure to the rod end of the screed lift cylinders. The screed counterbalance does the following:* Eliminates or decreases the settling mark made by the screed in some tender mixes.* Transfers weight from the screed to the paver to provide additional traction.* Reduces pressure on the screed plates which minimizes wear. An adjustable relief valve controls hydraulic pressure for the counterbalance system. With the valve turned out fully counterclockwise, the rod end pressure in the screed cylinder (indicated by the gauge) should be about 345 kPa (50 psi).If there are mat problems due to screed settling, turn the valve clockwise and increase pressure in increments of 345 kPa (50 psi). After each increment of adjustment, check the mat to see if the desired results are being obtained. If pressure is increased above 1380 kPa (200 psi), mat density may be affected.
Hot wire (1), factory connection (2), two-way solenoid (3), three stack valve (4), and screed valve (5).If a full floating screed is desired, disconnect the counterbalance control wire. Disconnect the hot wire at the two-way solenoid and connect it to the solenoid that lowers the screed.
Do not connect the counterbalance and screed lower solenoid to the two-way solenoid at the same time. This could cause electrical damage to the screed circuit.
