The improved exhaust manifold has eliminated the individual section to each cylinder. This exhaust manifold group can also be used on 3412 Generator Set and Industrial Engines in extreme service applications where stud breakage has occurred. The improved exhaust manifold group is directly adaptable only to engines with vee band clamps at the exhaust manifold to exhaust tube joints.Adaptable To: The part number for the 1W0416 Exhaust Manifold Group has not changed. The improved exhaust manifold group is effective with 772B (64W185) Tractor, 773B (63W3473-3475, 63W3477-Up) Trucks. The improved exhaust manifold is adaptable to earlier machines when using the following procedures. The former components are still used on other engine manifolds. Installing Improved Exhaust Manifold Group
1. Remove the existing manifold group and the studs that hold the manifolds. Discard these components.2. Install clamps (7) onto bellows (6). Spread clamp (7) so that bellows (6) slide on manifolds (2) and (3) with minimum force. Install the improved manifold sections (2) and (3) into bellows (6).3. Install new studs (9) in the cylinder head. Tighten studs to a torque of 35 N m (26 lb ft).4. Install the manifold assembly on the cylinder head. Hold in place with several nuts. If necessary, adjust the spacing between the manifolds by tapping in or out of the bellows with a wood block.5. Slide gaskets (1) into place between the cylinder head and the manifolds. It may be necessary to take off the nuts from the manifold sections to gain enough access between the head and manifold.6. Apply 5P3931 Anti-seize to studs (9), washer (5) and locknuts (4). Tighten the center nuts on each manifold section first. Then work diagonally as shown in the illustration. Snug all nuts before tightening any of them to the final torque. Tighten the nuts to a final torque of 38 N m (28 lb ft).7. Apply 5P3931 Anti-seize to bolt (8) and locknuts (4) that hold the bellow in place. Tighten nuts (4) to a torque of 50 N m (37 lb ft).
