Inspect Tooling (A) and axle shaft assemblies. Remove any nicks or burrs on the outside diameter. The outside diameters should be smooth to avoid damaging the lip type seal for the axle.
Apply Tooling (B) to the chamfers, the splines, and the bearing. Use only Tooling (B) or oil to lubricate these areas.Note: Do not use any grease which may leave a residue that will reduce the performance of the seal.
Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to the axle. The weight of the axle is approximately 23 kg (50 lb).
Align the axle with the splines in the steering clutch and brake. Align the axle with the final drive. Then install the axle.

Put retainer (5) and ring (6) in position and install spiral lock ring (4).

Install the O-ring seals for cover (3).
Put cover (3) in position on the final drive and install three bolts (2) and three bolts (1).
Repeat this procedure for the installation of the axle on the other side of the machine.
Fill the final drive with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Final Drive Oil - Change".
