Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
The water separator is located in the engine compartment on the right side of the machine.
Open the engine access door.

Loosen the drain valve (1) on the bottom of the water separator (2). Allow the water and the sediment to drain into a suitable container. Note: If fuel and water do not drain out, open the relief valve on the top of the filter base.
Close and tighten all open valves. Note: The water separator is under suction during normal engine operation. Tighten the drain valve in order to prevent air leakage into the fuel system.
If the engine fails to start, change the fuel filter. If there is a power loss, change the fuel filter.
Close the engine access door.
