583H, 583K PipelayersDescription of Change: A new wear guard is used at the bottom of the final drive case on the above models. Also, hardened flat washers are used instead of lockwashers on the guard mounting bolts, and the bolts are tightened to a higher torque. The new guards are made of forged steel, in comparison with the steel plate formerly used. The forged steel guards have better accuracy of shape, which will prevent possible cracks during assembly. The hard flat washers and increased torque will keep the mounting bolts tight. Formerly, some conditions caused the bolts to loosen.Adaptable As: Direct replacement. The new 7S7974 Guard can be installed in place of the former *2P9094 Guard, which is canceled. Two are used per machine. Twelve new 5P8249 Hard Washers are used per machine, in place of the former twelve 3B4514 Lockwashers. With the new washers, tighten the 1S454 Bolts to a torque of 550 55 lb ft (750 75 N m). *Note: The 6P549 and 8P1690 Guards used for service replacement are also canceled. Use the new 7S7974 Guard in place of any of these guards.
