Use this procedure to troubleshoot a problem with the power sensor. Also, use this procedure if one of the following diagnostic codes is active or easily repeated.

Generator Total Real Power : Voltage Above Normal The Generator Power Sensor signal voltage is more than 4.5 volts.

Generator Total Real Power : Voltage Below Normal The Generator Power Sensor signal voltage is less than .5 volts.
The code is logged.

Generator Total Real Power : Abnormal Frequency, Pulse Width, or Period The engine Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects an erratic or incorrect frequency from the pulse width modulated generator total real power sensor.
The code is logged.

Generator Total Real Power : Special Instruction The primary source for Generator Total Real Power Monitoring has failed and a secondary power monitor is not programmed in the Engine ECM configuration.
The code is logged.

Troubleshooting Test Steps Values Results
1. Check for Codes
A. Connect Cat® Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
B. Determine if a code is active or logged.
Codes
Result: A -3 or -4 code is active or logged.
Proceed to Test Step 2.
Result: A -8 code is active or logged.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
2. Check for Incorrect Configuration Parameters
A.Connect Cat ET.
B. Use Cat ET to verify that the correct Generator Output parameters are being used.
- "Generator Out Power Primary Input Minimum Range"
- "Generator Out Power Primary Input Maximum Range"
Parameters
Result: The parameters are correct.
Proceed to Test Step 3.
Result: The parameters are not correct.
Repair: Input the correct Generator Output parameters. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Configuration Parameters" for additional information.
