The improved muffler will better resist cracks in the lateral plate. The overwrap of the baffle plate and the inner body end was experiencing wear due to repeated friction caused by vibration of the inner body. The crack was appearing at the overwrap of the baffle plate. Refer to Illustration 1 for an example of the current design and the new design.The new 324-4083 Muffler As replaces the former 233-1189 Muffler As on 385C, 385CL, 385C FS, and 385C MH Hydraulic Excavators. The new muffler has a decreased inner body length to avoid contact between the inner body and the baffle plate on the muffler. A ring plate has also been added to the new muffler's inner body.
