Fuel leaked or spilled onto hot surfaces or electrical components can cause a fire.
Do not allow dirt to enter the fuel system. Thoroughly clean the area around a fuel system component that will be disconnected. Fit a suitable cover over disconnected fuel system component.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Turn off the engine.

Open the left engine access door on the machine.

(A) Fuel pump
(B) In-line fuel filter
Remove in-line fuel filter (B).
Install the new in-line fuel filter.
Clean up any fuel that remains on any surface area. Note: Do not start the engine until all the necessary service to the fuel system section is completed. See the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Fuel System - Prime" for the engine starting procedure that follows service to the fuel system.
Start the engine and check the fuel system for leaks.
Close the left engine access door on the machine.
