Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
Make sure that the pin bore in the boom is thoroughly clean prior to installation of the bearings and the lip seals.
Install two new sleeve bearings in the boom at the pin bore for the frame and the boom.
Lower the temperature of the bearings.
Install one bearing on each side of the boom pin bore. Install the bearing to a depth of 9.5 mm (0.37 inch) below the outside surface of the boom.

Use Tool (A) in order to install two lip seals (1) in the pin bore of the boom. Install each seal so that the sealing lip is facing out. Install the seals until each one makes contact with the bearing.
Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on the bearings and the lips of the seals.
Make sure that the pin bores in the boom and the frame are thoroughly clean prior to installation of the boom.

Fasten an appropriate clevis, a strap, and a hoist to lifting eyes (4) on top of the boom.
Put the boom in position in the frame of the machine.
Make sure that the pin bores in the boom and the frame are in alignment.
Make sure that the threaded puller hole in pin assembly (8) is thoroughly clean.
Install Tool (B) in the end of pin assembly (8).
Apply 5P-0960 Molybdenum Grease on pin assembly (8).
Fasten an appropriate lifting device and a hoist to pin assembly (8).
Partially install pin assembly (8) in the frame.
Remove the hoist from the pin assembly.
Use a hammer in order to drive the pin assembly in position. Do Not remove the hoist from the boom at this time.
Install the washer and install the retaining bolt for the pin assembly (7).
Illustration 3 g00484365Note: Adjust the lateral clearance to a maximum of 1.6 mm (0.06 inch). Use a feeler gauge in order to measure the clearance between the components.
Slide the boom to one side until the boom makes contact with the frame. Measure the total clearance between the boom and the frame at the pin bore. The total clearance of (a) and (b) can be a maximum of 1.6 mm (0.06 inch).
If the total clearance is less than 1.6 mm (0.06 inch), the addition of shims between the boom and the frame will not be required.
If the total clearance is more than 1.6 mm (0.06 inch), add the correct thickness of shims in order to obtain the necessary clearance.
If you have determined that shims need to be installed, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Boom - Remove" in order to remove the pin assembly (8).
Install the shims. The shims should be installed between the boom and the frame. Install the shims on the same side as the retaining bolt for the pin assembly (8).
