Base load operation is automatically initiated when the auxiliary contact for the utility circuit breaker is closed. This auxiliary contact is located inside the utility circuit breaker. The contact is wired into the switchgear at the "UTILITY AUX CONTACT" contacts. When a start signal input for base load operation is received the unit will perform the following functions:
Automatic start
Attain the rated speed.
Attain the rated voltage.
Synchronize the genset with the bus.
Close the generator circuit breaker.The start signal input for the base load operation is provided locally or the start signal input is provided remotely by the customer. This is done by establishing continuity between the "BASE LOAD START" contacts.Once the genset is operating in parallel with the utility, the generator output will gradually increase up to the base load setting on the touchscreen display. Generator output will remain at the base load level until the generator receives a signal to shutdown. When the load control receives a signal for base load shutdown the load control will gradually decrease the generator output. The signal for base load shutdown is provided locally or the signal is provided remotely by establishing continuity between the "BASE LOAD STOP" contacts. The control will open the generator circuit breaker when the unload setpoint is reached. The engine will run without a load for the cooldown period. The engine will automatically shut down.The parameters that are adjustable in the field include these items:
Load time
Unload time
Base load level The base load mode is disabled when the control is operating in the standby mode of operation.Perform these steps in order to prepare for base load operation:
Ensure that all of the generator and protective relay targets are reset. Ensure that the emergency stop switches are reset.
Ensure that the circuit breaker "UTILITY AUX CONTACT" for the remote utility circuit has been connected. When the remote contact for the utility auxiliary is not available place a jumper wire between the contacts at the "UTILITY AUX CONTACT". These contact points are located in the auxiliary switchgear cabinet.
Ensure that the circuit breaker for the remote utility is closed. The closed light for the utility circuit breaker should be illuminated. The touchscreen display should display a closed switch.
Ensure that both the generator and the utility are of the same phase rotation, operating voltage and frequency.
When a signal for automatic starting is received or a signal for remote starting is received the processor will start base load operation. When the utility circuit breaker is open and the terminal connections at the "UTILITY AUX CONTACT" are not electrically connected, the genset will automatically operate in the standby mode when an automatic start or remote start signal is initiated or received.Note: See the schematic for additional information on customer connections.
