Service Brakes
Use the service brake to reduce ground speed, or to stop the machine. Push the pedal DOWN to apply the service brakes.
Release the pedal to release the brakes. The service brakes on wheel tractor-scrapers are designed to stop the machine, but not for repeated application to slow the machine during retarder operation.Retarder
The retarder is a drive line mounted fluid coupling, used for continuous speed reduction during operation. Anticipate retarder use. It requires 3 to 4 seconds for the retarder to engage after the lever is moved.
Pull the lever REARWARD towards the operator to apply the retarder. The further the lever is pulled, the greater the braking action.
Push the lever FORWARD to stop the braking action and to disengage the retarder.Parking/Secondary Brake
Pull the knob OUT to apply the parking/secondary brake. The parking/secondary brake should be set any time the operator leaves the operator's compartment.Pull the knob OUT to apply the parking/secondary brake, if the service brake fails to stop the machine. The parking/secondary brakes will apply automatically if air pressure drops to 280 kPa (40 psi). When the brake is applied, the transmission is in NEUTRAL.
Push the knob IN to release the brakes. The air pressure must be above 450 kPa (65 psi). Be sure the knob stays in, to keep the brakes released, before moving the machine.Accelerator
Depress the pedal to INCREASE the engine speed. Release the pedal to DECREASE the engine speed.
The accelerator pedal is used to stop the engine by pulling the pedal back past the detent.Accelerator Lock
The accelerator lock holds the tractor and scraper engine rpm at high idle. Use the lock on long hauls where fatigue could result from accelerator pedal use.Push the button DOWN. The engine will remain at high idle until the accelerator lock is released.Pull the button UP, or tap the service brake, to release the accelerator lock.Engine Shutdown Handle (Normal shutdown is with key start switch)
Pull the handle out to stop the engine. After the engine stops, push the handle in. Use only in emergencies. Turn the key start switch to OFF. The engine shutdown handle does not shut off the machine's electrical system.Transmission Range Selector
Forward Ranges (1.) - The transmission will shift automatically between 1st and the speed selected. Manual shifting is not recommended during normal operation cycles. This machine is equipped with a neutral start switch. The engine will not start unless the transmission range selector is in NEUTRAL.
Neutral (2.) - Move the lever to NEUTRAL when parking the machine or when starting the engine.
Reverse (3.) - Move the lever to the front of the console for REVERSE.Transmission Neutral Lock
The transmission neutral lock prevents the range selector lever from being moved out of NEUTRAL. Move the range selector to NEUTRAL. Push the lever DOWN and move it to the LEFT to lock the transmission in NEUTRAL.
Push the lever DOWN and move it to the RIGHT to unlock the transmission range selector.Variable Capacity Torque Converter (VCTC)
Hold the button in on the bowl control lever while in first or second speed. This
