Remove the lockup clutch and solenoid valve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Lockup Clutch and Solenoid Valve - Remove". The information is in this manual.
Remove the relief valve (torque converter outlet). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Relief Valve (Torque Converter Outlet) - Remove". The information is in this manual.
Remove the engine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, SENR9136, "Engine - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the separation procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Attach Tooling (A), appropriate lifting chains, and a hoist to torque converter assembly (2). Install Tooling (B) to the torque converter and to the hoist, as shown above. Remove 11 bolts (3) and the washers that secure torque converter assembly (2) to engine (1) .
Use the hoist in order to carefully remove torque converter assembly (2) from engine (1). The weight of the torque converter assembly is 328 kg (723 lb).

Remove O-ring seal (4) from torque converter assembly (2) .
