In some instances, K-series retainers might move out of engagement. This problem might occur when a retainer has not been driven in the proper distance in order to engage the locking notch in the tip.

The retainer can be installed with a three pound ball peen hammer. A 229-0287 Pin Removal Tool As is available to facilitate the installation and removal of the K-series drive through retainer.Drive the retainer into the tip until the top of the retainer is flush with the top of the tip ear. You should hear a click when the retainer locks into position. The retainer should be free to have a slight up down movement. This will indicate proper engagement of the retainer latch in the receiving notch.

The retainer is properly installed.Use the short leg of the 229-0287 Pin Removal Tool As to install the retainer. Use the longer leg to drive the retainer out of the tip.

229-0287 Pin Removal Tool As If a retainer is found out of the correct position on a bucket that has been in storage for a long period of time, remove the retainer and measure the retainer across the body and the latch. In new condition, the dimension should be 28.65 mm (1.13 inch). Install a new retainer if the rubber has taken a compressive set and the measurement has been reduced to 27 mm (1.06 inch) or less.
