PRIORITY - PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR REWORKING THE MAINFRAME RIPPER MOUNTING SUPPORT CASTINGS ON CERTAIN D7E TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS.
MODELS INVOLVED - D7E TRACK-TYPE TRACTORS
Dear Cat Product Owner:
The mainframe ripper mounting support castings need to be reworked on certain D7E track-type tractors that are equipped with rippers. The existing casting may develop cracks and fail on D7E machines that are ripping a high percentage of time in rock or very hard ground conditions and applications. If the mainframe ripper mounting support casting fails, then resultant damage may occur to other parts of the machine mainframe and the ripper assembly. You will not be charged for the service performed.
Contact your local Cat dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service.
If you are no longer the owner of this product(s), please contact your local Cat dealer so that our records can be updated. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated 17Dec2013 when scheduling this service.
We regret the inconvenience this may cause you, but urge you to have this service performed as soon as possible to prevent unscheduled downtime.

For MDB serial number prefixes: reference KENR5166 Ripper Remove and Install Procedures for each ripper assembly component listed above.
For TAN serial number prefixes: reference KENR5612 Ripper Removal and Install Procedures for each ripper assembly component listed above.
Step 3.
Remove the four lower ripper mounting support seals.
Note: Do not remove the ripper mounting support bearings. These will help maintain the bore diameter during the weld rework described in the next step.
Step 4.
Perform ripper mounting support casting update per Special Instruction, REHS8544.
Step 5.
Remove ripper mounting support bearings after the casting update has been completed.
For MDB serial number prefixes: reference KENR5166 Ripper Frame Remove and Install Procedure, Step 7.
For TAN serial number prefixes: reference KENR5612 Ripper Frame Remove and Install Procedure, Step 7.
Step 6.
Measure the bearing bore internal diameter. Bearing bore diameter should be 114.35 +/- 0.04 mm (4.502 +/- 0.002 in). If bearing bores are too small, then line bore holes accordingly.
Step 7.
Install
