3176C oil pressure map 3406E EnginesThe ECM detects all of the following conditions:
The engine has been running for at least ten seconds. This ten second delay begins once the engine speed is within 50 rpm of low idle.
Engine oil pressure is below the trip line in Illustration 2 for two seconds.
100-03 diagnostic code is not active.
100-04 diagnostic code is not active.

3406E oil pressure map System Response:The ECM will log the derate. The ECM derates the engine power at a rate of 17.5 percent per second up to a maximum derate of 35 percent. The ECM will restore full power when the engine oil pressure rises above the reset line for 20 seconds.
Low power
There may be a problem with the engine lubrication system.
There may be a problem with the engine oil pressure sensor.Test Step 1. Check for Diagnostic Codes
Connect Caterpillar Electronic Technician (ET) to the service tool connector.
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. The engine should be off.
Check for any active diagnostic codes or for logged diagnostic codes.Expected Result:No diagnostic codes are present.Results:
OK - No diagnostic codes are present. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - A diagnostic code is present.Repair: Repair the diagnostic codes that are present. Refer to the appropriate topic in the "Troubleshooting With a Diagnostic Code" section of this manual.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem. Stop.Test Step 2. Perform a Check of the Engine Lubrication System
Perform a check of the engine lubrication system. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Low Engine Oil Pressure".Expected Result:There are no problems with engine oil pressure.Results:
OK - There are no problems with engine oil pressure. However, there may be an intermittent problem.Repair: Monitor the operation of the engine.Repair any problem.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem. Stop.
Not OK - There is a problem with engine oil pressure.Repair: Repair the problem.Ensure that the repair eliminates the problem. Stop.
