Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump- Remove" for the correct procedure.
Remove the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Remove" for the correct procedure.
If the engine is equipped with a fan, remove the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove the crankshaft front seal from the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

Remove bolts (3), bolts (4), and bolts (5). Identify the positions of bolts of different length.
Remove front cover (1) from the front housing.
Remove gasket (2). Installation Procedure

Ensure that all components are clean and free from damage. Replace any damaged components.
Thoroughly clean the gasket surface of the front housing.
Thoroughly clean front cover (1).
Install Tooling (A) into Holes (X) in the front housing.
Install a new gasket (2) onto Tooling (A).
Install front cover (1) onto Tooling (A).
Install bolts (3), bolts (4), and bolts (5) finger tight. Ensure that the bolts of different length are installed in the correct positions.
Use Tooling (B) to align the front cover assembly.
Remove Tooling (A) and install remaining bolt (3) and bolt (4).
Tighten bolts (3), bolts (4), and bolts (5) to a torque of 22 N m (195 lb in).
Remove Tooling (B).
Install a new crankshaft front seal to the front cover. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure. End By:
Install the water pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Water Pump- Install" for the correct procedure.
Install the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Vibration Damper and Pulley - Install" for the correct procedure.
If the engine was equipped with a fan, install the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
