Cat engines are identified by serial numbers and by arrangement numbers. These numbers are shown on the engine serial number plate. Cat dealers need these numbers to determine the components that were included with the engine. Serial number plates permit accurate identification of replacement part numbers.

The engine serial number plate is on the left side of the cylinder block to the rear of the front engine mounting.Cat distributors need all the information on the serial plate to determine the components that were included with the engine. This information permits accurate identification of replacement part numbers.
