Do not use excessive force in order to move the piston into the cylinder liner. Piston ring breakage may occur.
Carefully lower piston (4) and connecting rod (7) in the cylinder liner. The weight of piston (4) and connecting rod (7) will allow the piston rings to move away from Tooling (H) and to be installed into the cylinder liner.
If piston (4) will not move into the cylinder liner, remove piston (4) and connecting rod (7). Inspect piston (4) and the piston rings.
Ensure that connecting rod (7) is in alignment with the crankshaft. Lower piston (4) and connecting rod (7) until connecting rod (7) and the upper half of the connecting rod bearing is seated on the crankshaft.
Remove Tooling (A) and Tooling (M) from the connecting rod bolts.Note: Do not rotate the engine after Tooling (A) has been removed. Doing so may allow the bearing to move out of position and cause bearing damage.

Install the lower half of connecting rod bearing (9) in connecting rod cap (1). Ensure the tabs of the lower half of connecting rod bearing (9) are engaged with the slots in connecting rod cap (1).
Apply clean engine oil on the face of the lower half of the connecting rod bearing (9).
Position Tooling (F) across to the opposite access cover under connecting rod cap (1).
Ensure the numbers on the connecting rod and connecting rod cap (1) are identical. Ensure that the numbers are aligned. Place connecting rod cap (1) in position under connecting rod bolts (3). The weight of connecting rod cap (1) is approximately 16 kg (35 lb).

Lubricate the threads of connecting rod bolts (3) and nuts (2) with clean engine oil.Note: Only use clean engine oil to lubricate the threads of connecting rod bolts (3), the threads of nuts (2), and connecting rod bearing (9).Note: If connecting rod cap (1) separates once contact is made with connecting rod (7), connecting rod bearing (9) may become unseated. An unseated bearing may become damaged during the tensioning process.Note: The holes for connecting rod bolt (1) and connecting rod bolt (4) have a tighter clearance and are used to align connecting rod cap (1) to connecting rod (7). The holes for connecting rod bolt (1) and connecting rod bolt (2) are on the same side of connecting rod (7) as the bearing tab slot. The hole for connecting rod bolt (1) is on the side next to the serial number pad. Refer to Illustration 6.

Install connecting rod cap (1) and tighten all four nuts (2) by hand until contact is made with the cap face. No resistance should be felt when tightening nuts (2) by hand. Raise Tooling (F) to install the connecting rod cap.Note: Ensure the heads of connecting rod bolts (3) are positioned properly in the retainer.Note: Refer to Illustration 6.
