This Program must be administered either before or after failure.In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS45165" as the Part Numberand "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description code.If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program.Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the 25Jul2016 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Affected Product.

Lack of lubrication to internal gearbox output shaft bearings during initial engine cranking (after time of no operation) may result in bearing failure on certain CG170-16, G3512E, and G3516H Generator Sets.

ACTION REQUIRED
Include picture of Gearbox Serial Number Plate (reference Image 1) in warranty claims documentation.
Inspect Gearbox Bearings per steps below, and include picture of Gearbox Bearings (reference Image 2) in warranty claims documentation.
- Use borescope with flexible arm that will allow for insert and routing through oil fill cap on top of gearbox
- Inspect inside portion of the bearing for signs of excessive heating or damage
- If signs of heating or damage are visible, the bearing should be replaced
Perform the attached Rework Procedure to add pre-lube pump.
