Disassembly Procedure
Start By:
Remove the hydraulic tank. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Tank - Remove" for the machine that is being serviced.
Remove the filters from the hydraulic tank.

Remove bolts (1) and the top half (2) of the tank assembly.

Remove elbows (3) on the back of the bottom half of the tank assembly.
Remove bolts (5) from the back of the tank. Bolts (5) hold oil filter base (6) to the tank.
Remove oil filter base (6) and tube (7) from the tank.
Remove bolts (4) from the back of the tank. Make a separation of oil manifold (8) and the short tube from oil manifold (9). Oil manifold (9) is also the oil filter bypass valve.
Personal injury can result from parts under high spring pressure.Spring force can cause parts to come off suddenly. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for disassembly instructions before removing any parts.

Hold tube (11) in place. Remove bolts (10). Slowly remove tube (11), the flange, the springs and the oil filter bypass valve from the oil filter base.

Use a hammer and a suitable punch and remove pins (13) in order to remove rods (12) .

Hold retainer (19). Remove nut (14) and washer (16) from rod (15). Remove retainer (19), spring (18), and oil cooler bypass valve (17) from manifold (9) .
