3616 (1PD) EnginesUse the proper tooling and torque when servicing the fuel injection lines between the fuel manifold and the cylinder head. For engines that use heavy fuel oil, also use the proper tool and torque for servicing the fuel injector tip coolant line.
The 9U-5106 Diesel Engine Tool Group has been revised. The tool group now includes the 5P-0328 Crowfoot Flare-Nut Wrench (7/8-inch double hex) and the 5P-0329 Crowfoot Flare-Nut Wrench (15/16-inch double hex).
Improper connection of the fuel lines and/or the fuel injector tip coolant lines can allow engine damage and/or fire to occur. When servicing the connections, ensure that the connectors have the proper seal and the proper torque.
(REAR VIEW) (1) Nut of the fuel line at the cylinder head (all engines).(2) Nut of the injector tip coolant line. (3) Connectors of the fuel injector lines.1. Ensure that the connector (3) sealing surfaces are clean. Ensure that connector (3) has only one O-ring.2. Tighten the connectors (3) to a torque of 105 10 N m (77 7 lb ft).3. On all engines, use the 5P-0329 Crowfoot Flare-Nut wrench to tighten the fuel injection line nut (1). Tighten the fuel injection line nut to a torque of 45 4 N m (33 3 lb ft).4. On engine that use heavy fuel oil; use the 5P-0328 Crowfoot Flare-Nut Wrench to tighten the fuel injector tip coolant line nut (2). Tight the fuel injector tip coolant line nut to a torque of 50 7 N m (37 5 lb ft).
