EXCAVATOR,
Information:
Step 1. Check For Actuator Travel
Test Procedure:Crank the engine and check for Actuator Travel. Expected Results:Actuator movement to FUEL ON position. Step 2. Measure Cranking RPM
Test Procedure:Crank the engine and measure the cranking rpm. Expected Results:More than 75 rpm measured. Step 3. Manual Linkage Check
Test Procedure:With engine stopped, manually move actuator lever and linkage to full FUEL ON position against stop screw. Expected Results:Linkage should move thru full travel until it is against stop screw without binding or excessive force. Step 4. Actuator Voltage Check at Control
Test Procedure:Crank the engine and measure actuator voltage at the 2301 Control Unit across terminals that follow: Load Share (Parallel) unit - T16 & T17Standby (Nonparallel) unit - T5 & T6 Expected Results: More than 4 VDC Step 5. Resistance Check of Actuator and Leads
Test Procedure:Remove actuator lead from terminals T16 & T17 (Standby unit, T5 & T6). Now measure the resistance between the lead ends. Expected Results:Measured resistance should be between 30 and 40 ohms. Step 6. Actuator Coil Resistance Check
Test Procedure:Disconnect wiring connector from actuator. Put a jumper across pins C and D of connector. Measure the actuator coil resistance across connector pins A and B. If sure-seal connector is not used and wire connection is crimped, the wires will have to be cut. Cut the wire at each side of the crimp connection to remove a potential problem. Expected Results:Measured resistance to be between 30 to 40 ohms. Step 7. Actuator Lead Resistance Check
Test Procedure:Measure resistance of each lead between:Pin A and control (+) actuator terminal T17 (T6 Standby unit)Pin B and control (-) actuator terminal T16 (T5 Standby unit) Expected Results:Measured resistance of each lead is less than 1 ohm. Step 8. Magnetic Pickup Voltage Check
Test Procedure:Crank the engine and measure magnetic pickup voltage across terminals T18 & T19 (T7 & T8, Standby unit). Expected Results: More than 1 VAC. Step 9. Check Minimum Fuel Switch
Test Procedure:If so equipped, remove toggle fuel switch (minimum fuel switch) from control terminals T22 and T23. Crank the engine. Expected Results:Actuator lever movement to FUEL ON position. Step 10. Supply Voltage Check
Test Procedure:While cranking the engine, measure the supply voltage at 2301 Control terminals T12 and T13 (T1 and T2, Standby unit). Expected Results: More than 15 VDC. Step 11. Resistance Check of External Speed Trim
Test Procedure:Measure the resistance of the external Speed Trim circuit. See Wiring Diagrams in Service Procedures A and B. Expected Results:Resistance less than 100 ohms. Step 12. Check Control Speed Settings and Overspeed Protection Components
Test Procedure:Check the 2301 Control LOW IDLE SPEED potentiometer to make sure Low Idle setting is above cranking rpm. Make sure that RATED SPEED potentiometer is set at midpoint (center position) or less, and verify that overspeed protection component operates correctly. Now put a jumper across Low Idle terminals T14 and T15 (T9 and T10, Standby unit) and crank the engine. Expected Results:Actuator lever movement to FUEL ON position. Step 13. Check Actuator Oil Pressure Output
Test Procedure:With engine stopped, remove the test pressure
