Bearing Tool Maintenance
Initial Checks
Before using the bearing tool for removing or installing the bearing sleeve during a bearing service, check that the bearing tool retainers are properly adjusted. When adjusted, the split retainers on the bearing tool will be centered end-to-end and side-to-side on the plate. The bearing tool will turn freely in the smaller bore of the aluminum spacer.Use the following procedure to adjust the end plate if required.Note: Medium strength Loctite 242 is used to form a bond between the retainers and the plate. Make the adjustment 6 hours before using the tool. The 6 hours is the time that is needed for the Loctite 242 to cure to full strength. 75% bond strength is developed within 1 hour at 22° C (72° F).Adjusting Bearing Tool End plate
The following instructions explain how to adjust the bearing tool end plate.
Use the following steps to disassemble and clean the retainers and plate.
Remove the four 10 - 32 x .625 socket head cap screws that are black oxide coated. A 5/32 hex Allen wrench is required.
Remove both retainers.
Remove the stud/drive nut from the plate and stand-up so greased surfaces face up.
Clean the mounting surface of the retainer with a solvent such as ethanol or methanol. Do not remove any of the anti-seize grease on the inner surfaces of the retainers. Do not contaminate the anti-seize grease with solvent.
Clean the retainer mounting surfaces (1) on plate using the solvent. Do not remove any of the anti-seize grease on the bore of the plate. Do not contaminate the anti-seize grease with solvent.
Dry the mounting surfaces on retainers and the plate.
Assemble and adjust the components.
Replace stud/drive nut in plate.

(2) Location to apply thread locker
Apply several small drops of thread locker on the mounting surfaces (2) of the retainers next to the screw holes. Ensure that the thread locker is kept but away from the bore inner surfaces of the retainers.
Apply drops of Loctite to the bolt threads.
Place the retainers on the plate and align the bolt holes. Rotate the stud so the flat side of the stud lines up with corresponding face on one of the retainers.
Install the screws and tighten enough to hold the retainers in place but sill allow for adjustment.
Place the aluminum spacer over the retainers to adjust the spread of the retainers.

Center the retainers on the plate. Move the retainers until the reveal (3) between the retainer and the cut radius of the Ser300 bearings are equal for both retainers.
