The CID 247 FMI 14 diagnostic code is used by the Implement ECM as a "companion code". This 247-14 code is activated simultaneously with another ECM code, indicating that the SAE J1939 CAN Data Link has an abnormal condition.The FMI 14 will match the FMI 14 that is activated for the diagnostic code of the control module. FMI 14 (Special Instruction) means that the Implement ECM is not receiving expected information from another ECM.The 247-14 diagnostic code will never be activated by the Implement ECM as a stand-alone diagnostic code. The Implement ECM will only activate the 247-14 diagnostic code along with one of the following module communication codes:CID 0296 FMI 14 - Transmission/Chassis ECMCID 0590 FMI 14 - Engine ECMExample: If the Implement ECM detects that some expected operating parameter information is not being received from the Transmission/Chassis ECM over the SAE J1939 Data Link, the Implement ECM will simultaneously activate a 296-14 (Transmission/Chassis ECM) diagnostic code and a 247-14 (SAE J1939 CAN Data Link) diagnostic code.If the Implement ECM did not activate the 247-14 code along with the ECM code, the technician would not know if the (Cat Data Link or J1939 CAN Data Link) is involved.When the 247-14 code is activated by the Implement ECM, always look for one of the ECM codes that are listed above and troubleshoot that problem.Perform the following procedure when the 247-14 diagnostic code is activated. Verify that the 247-14 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure.Test Step 1.
