3400 Family Of EnginesDescription of Change: Improved valve mechanism cover groups are used on the 3400B Family of Engines. New valve covers, adapters and plugs are used in the groups to prevent oil leakage. New adapters are used for assembly of breathers, oil filler tubes and filler caps on the valve covers. New plugs are also used to cover the unused holes in the valve covers. The new adapters and plugs have an O-ring groove at the end of the press fit diameter. The bores for the adapters and plugs in the valve covers have been increased in length because of the increased adapter and plug engagement lengths.
Adaptable To: The changes to the valve mechanism cover groups are listed in the chart. The new parts are adaptable to all earlier engines in the 3400 Family. The new plugs and adapters must be used together. To install the new adapters, the temperature of the adapters must be - 18°C (0°F) or lower before they are pressed into the valve cover.
