(2) Coolant flow through the aftercooler When the turbocharger compresses the mixture of air and fuel, the temperature of the mixture rises. The aftercooler is water cooled. The aftercooler is located downstream from the turbocharger between the outlet of the carburetor and the inlet of the intake manifold. The aftercooler utilizes a radiator core to transfer the heat from the turbocharged air to the separate circuit cooling system. The aftercooler reduces the temperature of the air/fuel mixture that is compressed by the turbocharger. The cooler air is more dense and the cooler air provides more oxygen for combustion. More oxygen enables more fuel to be burned. An increase in engine power is realized.
