Removal Procedure
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Accidental engine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the equipment.To avoid accidental engine starting, disconnect the battery cable from the negative (−) battery terminal. Completely tape all metal surfaces of the disconnected battery cable end in order to prevent contact with other metal surfaces which could activate the engine electrical system.Place a Do Not Operate tag at the Start/Stop switch location to inform personnel that the equipment is being worked on.
Disconnect the batteries. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery or Battery Cable - Disconnect".

Put an identification mark on the harness assemblies that are connected to electric starting motor (3) and solenoid (1).
Disconnect the harness assemblies from solenoid (1).
Disconnect the harness assembly from electric starting motor (3).
Remove bolts (4). Use two people to remove electric starting motor (3) and gasket (5) from the flywheel housing. The weight of electric starting motor (3) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb).
If necessary, remove connector (2) and solenoid (1) from electric starting motor (3). Installation Procedure

Position gasket (5) and use two people to install electric starting motor (3) on the flywheel housing. The weight of electric starting motor (3) is approximately 36 kg (80 lb). Install bolts (4).
If necessary, install connector (2). Tighten nuts (8) and (9) to a torque of 31 4 N m (23 3 lb ft).
Connect the harness assemblies on solenoid (1). Tighten nuts (6) and (7) to a torque of 2.25 0.25 N m (20 2 lb in).
Connect the harness assemblies on the electric starting motor. Tighten nut (10) to a torque of 31 4 N m (23 3 lb ft).
Connect the batteries. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Battery or Battery Cable - Disconnect".
