VERIFY THE POWER SUPPLY WIRING TO THE PCP.
Turn the keyswitch ON.

Measure the voltage between the following pins on the MJB to PCP cable:
Pin 8 to pin 7
Pin 9 to pin 7
Pin 10 to pin 12
Pin 11 to pin 12
Pin 1 to pin 7
Pin 3 to pin 12Expected Result: The voltage is between 9 VDC and 32 VDC for all of the pin combinations.Results:OK - The voltage is between 9 VDC and 32 VDC for all of the pin combinations. Go to Test Step 2.NOT OK - The voltage IS NOT between 9 VDC and 32 VDC for all of the pin combinations.Repair: Replace the cable or repair the cable. Verify that the engine will start.STOP.Note: Pay special attention to the orientation of the power connector when plugging the power cable into the PCP. The power connector has keys (1) as shown in illustration 2. The power cable can be inserted into the connector upside-down. All of the inputs are protected from a direct short to the +battery circuit, but the PCP will not operate when the connector is inserted upside-down.

Screen for "CONTROL SYSTEM INFORMATION"
If an error message does not appear on the MPD, ensure that the MSCS screens appear on the MPD. Note: The screen for "CONTROL SYSTEM INFORMATION" will appear only when the MPD recognizes communications with the PCP. If this screen is displayed the PCP is active. The PCP appears to be working properly.

Verify the J1939 wiring to the PCP. Remove the termination resistors from the data link. Measure the resistance between pin 1 and pin 2 on the PCP connector. Refer to illustration 4.

Continue to make measurements with the pin combinations that appear in table 2. Expected Result: The resistance for all of the measurements is greater than 20000 Ohms.Results:OK - The resistance for all of the measurements is greater than 20000 Ohms. Go to Test Step 3.NOT OK - The resistance for all of the measurements IS NOT greater than 20000 Ohms.Repair: Repair the cable or replace the cable. Verify that the engine will start.STOP.
MEASURE THE RESISTANCE OF THE J1939 Data Link
Remove the termination resistors from the J1939 data link.

At the end MPD that has a termination resistor, remove the termination resistor and insert a jumper between pin 5 and pin 6 on the J1939 data link.
