Prior to any adjustment, refer to the "Preparations" section in Testing and Adjusting, "Operational Checks".
Release the pressure in the hydraulic system. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Disconnect the pilot line for the stick drift reduction valve at the tee. Place a cap in the end of the pilot line.
Place a plug in the tee.

Connect a 60000 kPa (8700 psi) pressure gauge to tap (1) .
Start the engine.
Place the engine speed dial at the HIGH IDLE position.Test
Move the joystick to the full STICK EXTEND position until the cylinder is fully extended.
Slowly move the joystick to the STICK RETRACT position.
Slowly retract the stick and observe the pressure at tap (1) .Note: The inward movement of the stick indicates that the relief valve is open.
The relief valve setting for the stick drift reduction valve is proportional to the load sensing pressure of the system. Calculate the relief valve setting from the following equation in Table 2:

"LS" is the load sensing pressure.    
"a" is the area of the cylinder piston (head end).    
"A" is the area of the cylinder piston (rod end).

If the stick drift reduction pressure is not correct, use shims to adjust the stick drift reduction valve.Note: One 0.1 mm (0.004 inch) shim will increase the relief valve pressure by 760 kPa (110 psi).Note: The shims for the stick drift reduction valve are located under the large cap on the top of the stick drift reduction valve.
When the stick drift reduction pressure is correct, connect the pilot line to the stick drift reduction valve.
