Removal Procedure
The engine can start automatically. Ensure that the power supply is isolated before any service or repairs is performed.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.
If the engine is equipped with an air starting motor. Turn the air supply at the air reservoir to the OFF position. Ensure that the air pressure is drained from the starting air system.

Remove bolts (2) from guard (1). Remove the guard from guard (3).
Remove bolts (4) from guard (3). Support the guard as the bolts are removed. Remove the guard from guard (5).

Remove the alternator belt. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator Belt - Remove and Install" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Alternator belt - inspect" for the correct procedures.
Remove bolt (9) from belt tensioner (10). Remove the belt tensioner from alternator bracket (8). Note the position of dowel (11) in the bracket and the belt tensioner.
If necessary, follow Step 8.a through Step 8.c in order to remove alternator bracket (8).
Remove the alternator from bracket (8). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Remove bolts (6) and allen head bolt (7) from alternator bracket (8).
Remove alternator bracket (8) from the cylinder block. If necessary remove dowels (12) (not shown). Installation Procedure
Ensure that the belt tensioner and the alternator bracket are free from wear or damage. Replace any component that is worn or damaged

If necessary, follow Step 2.a through Step 2.e in order to remove alternator bracket (8).
If necessary install dowels (12) (not shown) to the cylinder block.
Install alternator bracket (8) to the cylinder block. Ensure that the bracket is correctly aligned to dowels (12) (not shown).
Install bolts (6) and allen head bolt (7) to alternator bracket (8). Hand tighten the bolts and the allen head bolt.
Tighten bolts (6) and allen head bolt (7) to a torque of 44 N m (32 lb ft).
Install the alternator to bracket (8). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.
Install belt tensioner (10) onto alternator bracket (8). Ensure that dowel (11) (not shown) is correctly located into bracket (8).
Install bolt (9) to belt tensioner (10). Tighten the bolt to a torque of 50 N m (37 lb ft).
Install the alternator belt. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Alternator Belt - Remove and Install" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Alternator belt - inspect" for the correct procedures.

Install guard (3) onto guard (5). Install bolts (4) to the guard. Support the guard as the bolts are installed. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 10 N m (89 lb in).
Install guard (1) onto guard (3). Install bolts (2) to the guard. Support the guard as the bolts are installed. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 10 N m (89 lb in).
Restore the isolated power supply.
If the engine is equipped with an air starting motor. Turn the air supply at the air reservoir to the ON position.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the ON position.
